Have arrived in the heart of the Midwest for my nephew's U of Iowa graduation. Had visited Des Moines years ago on a business trip, so this is my 2nd trip to the state.
It's so....white ! here. A reminder that each of our united states has unique character, and perhaps that is the source of our strength. Am not convinced, though. The Tea People will claim that this here is the 'real' America. Really?
On the drive here from Chicago, you pass the birthplaces and memorials for two US Presidents of note: Herbert Hoover and Ronald Reagan. Two midwestern boys that we wished had stayed down on the farm.
