Dodd-ering

BobOnARoll salutes Sen. Chris Dodd for over three decades of service to his state and the nation, but at the same time deplores the system that gives us these Senators-for-Half-Life and the paralysis that comes with them.

How is it that six terms in the US Senate is seen as a virtue in a representative democracy? Our system borders on autocracy, not democracy. Rule by a narrow select few whose power stems from crafty re-election strategies and longevity. We might as well be Singapore, where one family has more or less effficiently run a sham democracy since its independence from Malaysia. If it often feels like we rarely get the change we need, well, hmm......

Federal term limits? Are we ready yet?
