Seattle Diarist: Wilderness tales

Thursday afternoon we hiked along the Iron Goat Trail, a 5-6 mile climb and excursion through glorious scenery and forests. One of the first railroads to link Seattle to the Midwest ran through this area, and the remnants of the tracks and structures constructed to keep the fierce winter snows off the tracks were still visible. An infamous avalanche/train disaster occurred here during the early 1900's. 100 people lost. Ours was a much more tranquil and sun-soaked day.
