Iranamok

No one knows which way the new Iranian Revolution will turn, now that the Supreme Leader (love that term!) has revalidated the phony election results. I for one hope the forces of democracy and free fair balloting win the day.

On the other hand, in terms of outcomes, it seems to me that we are looking at the American equivalent of, say, a presidential contest among Limbaugh, Cheney, and Gingrich. Ugh. So, who are we supposed to be rooting for, when all of their contenders are just variations on a theme of a nuclear-armed, anti-Israel, Islamofascist domestic and foreign policy? It appears to us as though Mossavi is the good guy in this contest, and, given the nature and demography of his supporters (akin to what we would call the university and upper west side elites), the media establishment has us rooting for the ones most like us. Right?

Well, there are probably plenty of surprises ahead, and am not sure any likely outcome is going to be one we savor. I think the Obamites are right to play this one down rhetorically and see who's still standing when the dust settles. Let's just be careful what we wish for....
