Hershey Co.'s fourth-quarter net income jumped 51% thanks to higher selling prices and lower restructuring costs, but the candy maker noted the economic downturn could hurt 2009 results.
The chocolate maker said higher prices and a huge advertising investment behind its core Reese's and Hershey's brands bolstered results. President and Chief Executive Officer David J. West credited a 26% boost in advertising spending with fueling sales in spite of higher commodity costs and unfavorable foreign currency-exchange rates. (Wall Street Journal)
