Single Bells

It's that time of year again, and, in sharp contrast to my usual holiday funk, I welcome these weeks with enthusiasm. All it takes is a national Catastrophe to bring me around--- a little holiday cheer is just what we need after these last 3 months, and I'm going to do what I can to spread the joy to friends and family.  Hope you will too.

Being single around the holidays has its advantages, despite a blue mood now and again. Fewer holiday parties and forced frivolity.  And more time to volunteer in places where I know I can make a difference.  Plus, since the media biz slows to a crawl around mid December, I get the time to travel to distant places.

Will be heading to Southeast Asia this year, my first time back in about 3-1/2 years.  After a brief stop in Singapore to see a few friends, I'll be heading to Indonesia and Vietnam, and hopefully a long weekend in Bangkok before the return to New York.

Being a solo traveler in that part of the world is something I've enjoyed in years past, so I decided to do it again this year. Although recent travels with Jase and other friends have been a nice change of pace, I’m going back to a travel style I discovered I enjoy at least as much.  Besides the flexibility that comes with being on my own, I'm never alone for very long when I'm on the road.  Strangers gravitate to the solo traveler in a way that rarely happens to me when I am traveling with others.   Some of those 'strangers' have become good friends.  Am really looking forward to this adventure.

Happy holidays, stay tuned…….
